What are Next Generation aid?
Next Generation aid is an initiative of the Government of Spain to finance energy rehabilitation projects for buildings with the aim of reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. These aid are included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Spanish Economy and are financed by the Next Generation EU European recovery funds.
If we focus on the Catalan community, there are several aid programs:
- Program 3: aimed at subsidizing part of the energy rehabilitation of multi-family or single-family buildings.
-Program 4: aimed at subsidizing part of the energy rehabilitation in individual homes located in multi-family or single-family buildings.
-Program 5: aimed at subsidizing part of the technical costs of writing the building book and carrying out technical projects.
Who can apply for aid?
Owners of single-family homes or homes in multi-family blocks or neighborhood communities can apply for Next Generation aid as long as they meet the established requirements. Furthermore, it is necessary that the building presents energy deficiencies and that the improvements made to it aim to increase energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.
How long will they be available?
There is a slight difference between the requirements to be met and the time that Next Generation aid will be available depending on the cities or autonomous community where the aid is requested.
For example, in Catalonia there are 3 calls. On the one hand, the call of the Agència de l'habitatge de Catalunya, the consorci de l'habitatge de Barcelona and that of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The first two end on June 30, 2026 or until the funds are exhausted, while that of the Generalitat is renewed every year.
